Dara McCallum is the eldest child of thirteen, the son of Moira McCallum and her expected heir. The McCallums live in a big, rangy house in the forest next to a circle of stones known as the Watchers. Most people don't realize that the Watchers refer to the McCallum family, and the stones they're watching are more properly known as the Wakers.

And when the stones awaken, things can get very strange indeed. The Wakers are a gate to Faerie, and all the joys and sorrows that can be found there. Dara, unfortunately, may be fated to be more familiar with the sorrow than the joy.
